Throwing a Garden Party

Throwing a garden party

Summer is just around the corner which means we can embrace the outdoors more than ever whilst we spend the weekends and evenings relaxing with friends over an ice cold lemonade. Now that flowers are blooming why not make the most of it and throw a full on garden party. It’s time to get creative and inject some style into your outdoor soiree. Here is what we would recommend:

Plan a menu

When it comes to planning food for a garden party we would recommend finger food buffets. Not only will this encourage guests to socialise but it will also mean that there’s more chance of pleasing everyone by offering a variety of tasty snacks. Think mini empanadas, fresh salads, sandwiches and a variety of canapés.

Set the scene

Setting the scene can be one of the most important things when throwing a party of any kind. You want to create an inviting atmosphere so that your guests feel relaxed and welcomed. If you don’t have the furniture go boho. This shabby chic trend is perfect for such an occasion and will create the cosiest hub for mingling in style. Grab rugs, cushions and bean bags, hang fairy lights from the trees and adorn the remaining space with beautiful lamps for a luxury lounge picnic on the floor.

Alternatively you can opt for a table setting. It may be a good idea to choose a colour theme first. Take inspiration from the beautiful blooms around you and allow the colour theme to complement the natural surroundings. Allow your cushions, tablecloth and napkins to reflect these colours creating a beautiful theme for the party.

Setting the scene

It’s always a good idea to keep your beverages chilled. Placing your drinks in buckets of ice will allow guests to comfortably help themselves and makes it easier on you too. Think refreshing bottles on lemonade. If this isn’t your style and you wanted to go all out then why not create your own show stopping drinks. Why not make French martinis or tropical mocktails. Our favourite garden party cocktail is the hibiscus flower special. Not only does it look beautiful but it tastes exquisite and consists of hibiscus flowers in syrup, lemon juice and Cava.

Of course our favourite part of any party is dressing up and garden parties mean we can finally wear our prettiest of dresses.  Whether your wishing to opt for something classic or a statement frock we have just the outfits for you.

Garden Party Edit 1

You may be attending a garden party to celebrate a special event and if this is the case we would suggest dressing up for the occasion.  Our Fulham Printed Dress is perfect for this kind of garden party and will ensure that you stand out from the crowd  in an exuberant colour palette.  Team with our Black Highgate Shrug for when things get chilly and accessorise with The Two Part Block Heel Court Shoe and the Envelope Turn Lock Clutch bag from Dune.  Both the shoes and the bag are practical for a garden party but will also add elegance to this ensemble.

If you are unsure of the theme for the garden party then opt for something a bit more subtle.  We love the Dusky Pink Cap Sleeve Dress as not only is it smart and sophisticated but it is also incredibly comfortable and versatile.  Pair it with our Ivory Highgate Shrug and neutral shoes and accessories.  We love the Vanwert bag from Aldo,  as not only is it practical but it's sleek design makes it irresistible.  The SW Jean Slingback Wedge from Russell & Bromley will work wonders to tie the outfit together and are also incredibly comfortable making it easy to walk on the grass.

For a casual day time party we would recommend going for ultimate comfort whilst still looking summery and stylish.  The Highbury Tea Dress with our Apricot Highgate Shrug is perfect for an occasion like this and the light colour palette will ensure you look fresh and radiant.  Team it with Carvela flats in gold and the Woven Kate Bag from Kurt Geiger to add some glamour and complete the look.
