The Art of Shaving
Why Wet Shave?
Classic wet shaving is the best way to avoid irritated skin, in-grown hairs and razor burn. Poor skin preparation and inadequate lubricant cause irritable skin by pulling and tugging at the hair. The classic wet shave is also the closest shave you can get compared to electric razors or plastic cartridge shaves.
There are simple steps that must be followed to achieve the perfect shave. These are:
1. Skin Preparation
2. Apply & Build A Rich Lather
3. Shave
4. After Shave Care
Follow our simple step by step guide and make the laborious task of irritating your skin into an enjoyable, invigorating experience.
Skin Preparation
Preparing the skin before shaving is vitally important for a number of reasons. Firstly warming the skin prior to shaving helps loosen the skin’s grip on the hair whilst the warmth mixed with moisture helps to soften the beard. Pre shave products also help to protect the skin against the razor.
Prepare your skin with N.G.T.
Step 1: Apply a hot, damp cloth to your face for at least one minute to open the pores and soften the hair.
Step 2: Using circular movements apply N.G.T. Exfoliating Face Wash to wet skin to lift the hairs.
Step 3: Using hot water rinse the N.G.T. Exfoliating Face Wash from the skin taking care not to remove the moisturising residue left as a protective layer on the skin.
Apply & Build A Rich Lather
A rich lather acts as a cushion for the razor blade helping to reduce the razor drag on the skin in turn helping to reduce irritation, soreness and in-grown hairs.
Apply & build a rich lather with N.G.T.
Step 1: Squeeze a coin sized amount of N.G.T. Luxury Shaving Cream into the palm of your hand. Slowly add warm water and continuously mix with the cream in your palm to build a thick lather.
Step 2: Begin application using circular movements to help soften the beard further ensuring all areas which will come into contact with the razor are well covered.
Step 3: Smooth the cream into an even surface removing any excess product without affecting coverage.
Shaving With A Razor
Shaving with a razor takes practice but there are a few key points to remember
Remember...
... Use the lightest pressure possible as the blade should be used to cut the hair and should never be dragged across the skin.
... Shave with the grain of your beard i.e. In the direction of your beard growth.
... Try to keep the razor parallel to the skin rather than perpendicular to ensure a closer shave.
... Once you have passed the razor over the skin you have removed all protection provided by the shaving cream so never go over the same area twice. If you need to pass the razor over the skin for a second time you should reapply the N.G.T. Luxury Shaving Cream.
After Shave Care
Shaving can take its toll on the skin so it is essential to replenish your skin after shaving.
After shave care with N.G.T.
Step 1: Splash cold water on your face to remove any excess product, reduce any redness and close the pores. Splashing with cold water also helps to heal any small nicks you may have had during shaving.
Step 2: Pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Never rub the skin as this will irritate the skin and can cause further soreness.
Step 3: Apply N.G.T. Soothing Aftershave Balm to the skin to hydrate, heal and refresh the skin. Warm in the palm of your hand and apply gently to the face.
